We, Andrea and Ekatherina, are greeting you in our capacity as the new AHN conveners, the role we have taken from 1 January 2021 for the 2 upcoming years.
Ekatherina Zhukova is a researcher at Lund University in Sweden. She works on humanitarianism from the perspective of disaster, crisis, embodiment, gender, and childhood. One of her projects is about Italian small-scale humanitarianism to the Chernobyl children from Belarus. She likes chocolate, but fights the temptation of buying it (out of sight, out of mind).
Andrea Steinke is a research fellow at the Centre for Humanitarian Action in Berlin, Germany. From the point of view of an anthropologist, she works on topics such as the humanitarian-development-peace Nexus, securitization, faith-based humanitarianism and humanitarian identities. She is very good at playing “thumb war”.
We would like to sincerely thank the founding AHN conveners, Čarna Brković and Antonio De Lauri, for the outstanding work they have done with setting up the network and making it such a vibrant community! We will try our best to match the standards.
In the nearest future, we will be working on our vision of what AHN should be in these upcoming years. If you have any ideas and suggestions that you would like to share with us in this regard, you are most welcome to contact us. We will get back to you on that in the upcoming months.
